Creatures of the Barents Sea: the mighty king crabAddress: 9750 Honningsvåg Date: Wednesday 20 may 2020 - Monday 31 Aug 2020
Address: 9750 Honningsvåg
Explore the northern coast of Magerøya and get up close with the infamous crustacean, known as the red king crab.
Although the king crab is not an indigenous species, - it migrated from the Murmansk fjord in Russia - its presence has created a flourishing industry for the local fishermen.
By RIB boat, we will explore the area around Skarsvåg and North Cape before pulling the crab pot and check our catch of the day. Your guide will give you the chance to take pictures and hold the animals before going back on land for a little lesson in history and anatomy. Finally, you will get to taste this exclusive delicacy in a traditional Norwegian way, with bread, mayonnaise and lemon.
3 reasons to book now:
- Get up close with one of the most impressive creatures of the Barents Sea. King Crabs can grow up to 2 metres wide and weigh up to 15kg.
- Enjoy the arctic scenery from one of our RIB boats. Exploring the North Cape area by boat gives you a much better understanding of how hard it must have been for the first visitors to reach this iconic landmark.
